Gift a Book Program

GIFT A BOOK is a program of the nonprofit Maine Poetry Central and the Portland Poet Laureate Program, created to enhance the contemporary poetry collections of community and high school libraries throughout the State of Maine.  Through Gift a Book, area poets and poetry lovers are encouraged to purchase and donate copies of new poetry books–their own collections or those of contemporary poets they admire–to their local library and to other libraries of their choice.​

 

Maine Poetry Central is a nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding awareness and enjoyment of poetry in the State of Maine.  It is our hope that through the Gift a Book Program, the poetry collections of community and academic libraries will reflect not only the canon of traditional poets and poetry styles, but the dynamic and evolving ‘news of poetry’ as it is being created by today’s literary artists.  Gift A Book also seeks to introduce and build stronger bonds and vital working relationships between local Maine poets and those who direct library programs in their schools and communities.
